Alessandro Diamanti said that Italy did not flinch against England in the quarterfinals of Euro 2012.
France previously expected to win Group D, but it was England who finished in the top three-point difference with the net and earn the right to face Italy, not the defending champion Spain.
Azzurri midfielder from the club Bologna, Diamanti, who had played for one season at West Ham (2009-2010), told a press conference that he was confident Italy will advance to the semifinals.
"We will do all we can to get away from the quarter-finals," said Diamanti. "For business and supporters, England about 30 years ahead. But, on the field, Italy is superior. Quality of our football is much better. We respect the UK, but we are not afraid of them."
British counter-Italian duel will be held June 24 at the Olympic Stadium, Kiev (Ukraine), and led by the Portuguese referee Pedro Proenca.
